Show Review: The Paradise T.V. Series

I have two words to say about my review of the new T.V. series The Paradise: Absolutely Delightful! Since I watched the first episode of season one, I knew immediately that along with Downton Abbey that The Paradise would be in my top favorites must-see-shows-ever!

The following are the reasons, besides the magnificent costumes, why I'm totally smitten and in love with this show:

  • Victorian Era Love Story
  • Tastefully Romantic
  • Intriguing Drama with a sprinkle of Mystery
  • Great Story Characters
  • Keeps you wanting for more!

Totally Chick Flick Approval!

The Paradise is an adaptation on the french novel, Au Bonheur des Dames (The Ladies' Delight or The Ladies' Paradise) the eleventh novel in the Rougon-Macquart series by author Émile Zola. The original story was set in the world of the department store, an innovative development in mid-nineteenth century retail sales. The author had modeled his store after Le Bon Marché, which is one the best known department store in Paris.

The T.V. series tells the story of Denise a young woman from a small town who ends up working in one of England's first department stores who owner is a widower named John Moray. Denise talents and great skills became quickly noticeable by everyone around, especially by Mr. Moray, who later names her his "little champion." That is just the beginning of the story!

Spoiler Pictures Alert! Caution while entering the store!

Murdoch Mysteries / Seventh Season

For all of you fans of the Murdoch Mysteries a brand new seventh season started in September 2013! Not long ago I have started watching this series through Netflix. I am around the second season now (I know I am way behind. But I truthfully didn't know about this show until I saw it on Netflix. My husband and I opted in not having cable. Our bill was getting way too expensive).Currently Netflix has up to the third season. Has anyone sent them the memo yet?

Anyhow I absolutely love this Victorian mystery show! Back in those days they didn't have all the gadgets and science that we have nowadays to solve a crime. So it's so interesting to see how they were able to solve a crime without the modern technology that we have nowadays. I totally love the chemistry between the main characters! For the hopelessly romantic gal out there there is a little of romance through the series. I don't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen the show yet. So you just have to tune in.

In addition to that I also love how they have incorporated within the show real characters that lived back then. For instance they had the famous Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill in the the 1st episode of the second season.

Can't wait to watch my next episode! You can visit Murdoch Mysteries official website for season listing, fun facts, games, and cast interviews. To watch full episodes you go Acorn TV and pay a monthly affordable subscription .

The Archives: Wondermark, A Retro Comic Strip!

Since I first laid my eyes on Wondermark, I knew it was love at first sight! Here it is the perfect retro comic strip!

The first thing that caught my attention when I went to the Wondermark website was the vintage feel of it, which I am all for it! Second, the comic strip itself is made to look like it was taken from an old newspaper. So here you are, reading a newspaper comic strip on the internet! Third, I have lately discovered my love for the Parisian Steampunk culture. And Wondermark, is just that! And last but not least, the dialog is about modern daily living, sort of like being a Timewarpian! You dress retro, but you are living in the 21 Century.

Two thumbs up, for Wondermark!

Wondermark cat has a blog

This comic episode, reminds me of the conversation I have with my husband when he is at his computer all day!

Wondermark she wants to make sure

And in this episode is totally what my nervous mom would say! "Can't a mother worried?"

A little bit about the artist himself:

Wondermark is by David Malki ! This comic strip is like reading a 100 years old newspaper comic strip, but with a modern twist! David uses vintage drawings and writes a story line around it. If you love humor with a kick, Wondermark will be your favorite comic page to visit!

Oh, and if you thought that the exclamation mark at the end of David Malki! was a typo, well it wasn't it. That is how he spells his name. Now, that is one funny fellow!

The Archives: Art Deco Festival Bloopers

In January, I had the privilege of attending this year's Miami Beach Art Deco Festival 2009! I met artist, designers and singers. And while filming our first video, I met with Mr. Blooper! Here is a small preview of my Film at the Art Deco Festival. And don't forget to "accentuate the positive"! Enjoy!

Behind The Scenes:

The first day of the Art Deco Festival was pretty dreary and cold. So being inside the Miami Beach City Hall historic building was nice and cozy. My director couldn't travel with me that day, so I had to ask a dear friend of mine to be our director for the first day of the festival. I haven't seen my friend in years! That day was special for us both.

Historic Building:

The Miami Beach City Hall building was constructed back in 1927. This historic landmark is a Mediterranean Revival design. Recently the building went through a multi-million dollar renovation, which restored the building to its original beauty. Here you can appreciate the embossed print over the golden brown wooden floors.

Photo Fashion Shoot:

The night before the festival, I had my hair done in pin curls and used a non-fragrant hair spray. The next morning, I wore my art deco style dark faux fur hat. I wore a dark gray wool jacket and I added a black thin shiny belt to accentuate my waist. Then I added my black faux fur scarf. For shoes, I wore my beige Mary Janes pumps, which by the way are very comfortable.

Special thanks to the Miami Design Preservation League, for giving us the privilege for filming inside the City Hall Historic building! To be a member of the MDPL or to find out the upcoming events visit: MDPL.ORG

The Archives: My Life As a Retro Artist!

The other day I was contacted by a Cnn reporter! I was totally excited, because I had never had another person approached me to interview me! As a Retro Reporter I do the interview and bring the stories to my viewers. Of course, I am in front of the camera most of the time and sometimes behind the scenes when I interview my guests. I don't like it to always be about me. I just love listening about other peoples lives. I am a people's person and that is part of who I am.

Though, I have to admit, that it does feels nice to once in a while receive a complement or commendation from another human like myself. So that made my day!

I knew that having the opportunity in being in national T.V. would be something big! So, I took the opportunity and made my video "My Life As a Retro Artist"! Yay, movie time! This short film is a biography of my career as a Retro Artist, Reporter, and Filmmaker. Since I was young, I have been fascinated about time traveling, history, and retro living! I always wanted to learn about how people lived in the past.

Come with me, as I share with you my life as a Retro Artist!
